Greetings I send to thee, broad-minded Englishman,

Greetings kind and true, from Afric’s lowly son;

Honour you well merit, honour you have won,

Fairly you plead the case of the down-trodden African.

Oh, so many abuse the “Children of the Sun,”

As if we are the scums [sic] of this poor earth;

Few Englishmen like you admit our worth,

But we with hearts quite stout go marching on.

Care not one whit about those who look with disdain

At you while you labour for the unfortunate,

Your work is just, therefore never from it refrain.
